FAQs

How does Split PDF work? Is everything processed locally?
Yes. Split PDF runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and pdf-lib. Your PDF is read and split on your device—there is no upload to PrivOffice and no server-side processing.
Do I need to turn on “local processing” or choose server processing?
No. PrivOffice Split PDF is always local. There is no toggle and no server option: your file never leaves your device for splitting, which is ideal for confidential documents.
Can I extract non-consecutive pages?
Yes. Use Range → Custom and add multiple ranges—for example one range for page 1, another for pages 5–7, and another for page 12. You can output each range as its own PDF or use “Merge all ranges in one PDF file” when you want those pages combined into a single document.
Is there a limit on how many pages I can split?
There is no fixed page cap in the tool. Very large PDFs use more memory in your browser, so performance depends on your device. You can split a single page, long documents, or many parts as needed.
Will splitting change the quality of my PDF?
No. Pages are copied from your original file; text, images, fonts, and layout stay as in the source PDF.
Can I split password-protected PDFs?
Strong encryption or passwords can block loading. If splitting fails, try unlocking the PDF first with PrivOffice’s Unlock PDF tool, then split the unlocked file.
Are my files stored on your servers?
No. Splitting happens locally in your browser. PrivOffice does not store, analyze, or keep your PDFs on our systems.
Does Split PDF work offline?
You need an internet connection the first time to load the site and scripts. After the page and libraries are loaded, you can often continue splitting without a connection, depending on your browser and cache.
Is Split PDF free?
Yes. Like the rest of PrivOffice, it’s free to use with no sign-up required.
